Google Search Introduces New AI Mode and Upgraded AI Overviews

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): On Wednesday, Google launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature called AI Mode, aimed at providing enhanced search results for more complex and multi-faceted queries. Initially available to a limited number of users, AI Mode is designed to answer challenging questions that would typically require multiple searches, offering deeper insights with advanced reasoning and thinking capabilities.

AI Mode Features

In a blog post, Google explained that AI Mode is built on the Gemini 2.0 model and enhances the existing AI Overviews feature. The new mode is intended to handle searches that demand more detailed exploration, comparisons, or reasoning. Users can switch to AI Mode through a filter on the search results page, which will appear alongside the regular search filters such as All, Images, and News.

Once enabled, the AI Mode will provide multimodal results, including images, tables, and websites that can offer further insights. It uses a "query fan-out" technique, running multiple related searches simultaneously to gather data from several sources like web content, knowledge graphs, and shopping data. The results are presented in an easy-to-understand format.

Currently, the feature is in the early experiment phase and is accessible through Google Labs to select users, including Google One AI Premium subscribers. Google has not yet confirmed when or if it will be available to all regular users.

Upgraded AI Overviews

In addition to AI Mode, Google is also upgrading its AI Overviews feature, which provides summary snapshots of search results. This updated version will leverage the Gemini 2.0 model and offer answers to more complex queries related to coding, advanced mathematics, and multimodal topics. The new AI Overviews are currently available in the U.S., and Google is expanding the product to more users, including teenagers with teen accounts.

These AI-generated summaries will also be accessible to users who are not signed in to their Google accounts.
