Gemini to Replace Google Assistant on Android Phones Soon: What to Expect

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Google has announced plans to phase out its classic Google Assistant from Android smartphones, transitioning users to its AI-powered Gemini assistant later this year. The shift will see most Android users upgraded to Gemini, although devices running Android 9 or earlier will retain Google Assistant for now.
Launched last year, Gemini offers AI-powered features like image generation, text summarization, and multimodal capabilities. It also supports tasks such as setting alarms, controlling device features, taking photos, and managing media playback. Gemini integrates with third-party apps like WhatsApp and Spotify, and introduces "Gemini Live" for more natural voice interactions.
Despite improvements, some features, such as 'Routines,' are still missing, but Google continues to enhance the experience for Assistant users. Beyond smartphones, Gemini is expanding to other devices like tablets, cars, and smart home gadgets. More updates are expected in the coming months.
