DPIIT Asks Manufacturers to Submit Monthly Data for Revised IIP Series

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has requested manufacturing units across the country to submit their monthly production statistics from April 2022 onwards for the new series of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP). This move is part of the department's efforts to monitor industrial growth and develop policies in line with stakeholder needs.
In a recent communication, the DPIIT emphasized the importance of unit cooperation in providing the necessary primary data on industrial production. The statistics submitted will contribute to the IIP, a key indicator of the nation's industrial growth. Units can submit their data through a government portal, ensuring it is used solely for monitoring industrial growth.
The department assured manufacturers that the data would not be used for any other purpose. The IIP is vital for understanding the overall health of industrial sectors, as India's industrial production growth slowed to a three-month low of 3.2% in December 2024, primarily due to poor performance in the mining and manufacturing sectors. The National Statistical Office (NSO) releases official IIP data, which serves as a critical gauge of factory output.
