Another Indian student killed in the U.S. while working a part-time job.

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A 26-year-old Indian student, G. Praveen, was shot dead in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Wednesday during what is believed to have been a robbery at a store where he worked part-time. Praveen, a native of Ranga Reddy district in Telangana, had been pursuing an MS degree in the US since 2023. His family was informed of the tragedy by US authorities after the incident.
Praveen’s father, Raghavulu, received a WhatsApp call from his son at 5 am (Indian time) but missed it. When he tried to contact Praveen later, someone else answered his phone, raising his suspicions. Upon contacting Praveen's friends, Raghavulu learned that his son had been shot during a robbery at his workplace. Praveen’s body was reportedly found with multiple bullet wounds, although some sources suggest that the exact circumstances of his death are still unclear. US officials stated that a post-mortem report would provide more clarity.
Praveen had returned to the US in January after a brief visit to India in December. He had completed his BTech in Hyderabad before continuing his studies in the US. His death marks the third such incident involving a student from Telangana in the past five months, as another student from Khammam district was shot in November 2024 and another from Hyderabad in January 2025. These recurring incidents have raised serious concerns about the safety of Indian students studying and working in the United States.
As the news of Praveen’s death spread, grief engulfed his family, leaving many questioning the safety of students abroad.
