T20 Sensation: 37 Sixes in One Innings Lead Team to Unprecedented Record
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Baroda cricket team has set a new record in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. In today's match, Baroda posted an impressive total of 349/5 in 20 overs, with Bhanu Poonia playing a stellar unbeaten knock of 134 runs.
Baroda's innings featured a record-breaking 37 sixes, making them the new record holders for the most sixes in a T20 innings. The previous record for the highest score in T20 cricket was held by Zimbabwe, who scored 344 runs against Gambia on October 23 this year. In that match, Zimbabwe also set the record for the most sixes in an innings with 27. However, Baroda surpassed this feat with their 37 sixes, 15 of which came from Bhanu Poonia’s bat.
Despite the absence of Hardik Pandya, the Baroda team, captained by Krunal Pandya, saw a brilliant display of batting. Four players scored over 50 runs in the match. Shashwat Rawat and Abhimanyu Singh gave the team a strong start, amassing 90 runs for the first wicket in just 5 overs. Abhimanyu scored 53 runs off 17 balls before being dismissed, while Shashwat contributed 43 runs. Bhanu and Shivalik Sharma then took over, with Shivalik hitting 55 runs off 17 balls before being dismissed. Vishnu Solanki also added 50 runs off 16 balls.
Bhanu's knock of 134 runs off 51 balls, including five fours and 15 sixes, was a dominant performance. However, Bhanu missed breaking the world record for the most sixes in a T20 innings. Had he hit just four more sixes, he would have set the new record. The current record for the most sixes in a T20 innings is held by Chris Gayle, who hit 18 sixes while scoring 146 runs for Rangpur Riders against Dhaka Dynamites in the Bangladesh Premier League.
