Melbourne (The Uttam Hindu): Ahead of the Boxing Day Test against Australia, India’s captain Rohit Sharma and opening batsman KL Rahul were injured during a practice session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday. While facing throwdowns, Rohit sustained a painful injury to his left knee. Although he attempted to continue with his practice, Rohit was forced to seek medical attention and was seen sitting on a chair with an ice pack on his knee for nearly 25 minutes.

Prior to Rohit, KL Rahul also sustained an injury during the session, injuring his hand. The team physio had to rush onto the field to attend to him. However, there has been no official statement from the BCCI or the Indian team regarding the status of both players’ injuries. During the session, fast bowler Akash Deep also sustained a minor injury to his hand. However, he downplayed the issue in a press conference, stating, “The practice pitch is probably suited for white-ball cricket, and the ball stays low at times. As far as these minor injuries are concerned, they happen during training, and there’s no need to worry. I’m fine.”

Indian batsmen Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant spent considerable time in the nets, while pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and others bowled with full intensity. The Indian team will take a rest on Monday ahead of the fourth Test, which will begin in Melbourne on December 26. The five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series is currently tied 1-1. India started the series with a magnificent 295-run victory in Perth, followed by Australia’s ten-wicket win in Adelaide. The Brisbane match was affected by rain and ended in a draw between the two teams.
