Sindhu and the men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty worked hard to advance to the second round of the India Open Super 750 badminton tournament on Tuesday, marking a mixed start for Indian players. Sindhu, who missed the season-opening Malaysia Open Super 1000 in December due to her wedding, struggled to find her rhythm but managed to secure a 21-14, 22-20 victory over world number 24 Sung Shua Yun of Chinese Taipei.

In men’s doubles, the seventh-seeded Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who are title contenders, fought through a tough challenge and triumphed 23-21, 19-21, 21-16 over the world-ranked seventh Malaysian pair of Man Wei Choong and Kai Wun Tee. Young talent Kiran George overcame world number 25 Yushi Tanaka of Japan in a thrilling contest, winning 21-19, 14-21, 27-25. In mixed doubles, the Indian duo of Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila advanced to the second round with an 8-21, 21-19, 21-17 win against Chinese Taipei’s Chen Cheng Kuan and Su Yin Hui.
