Tensions Turn to Violence: Woman and Aides Assault Travel Agent Over Deportation in Punjab

Ludhiana ( The Uttam Hindu): In a disturbing turn of events in Punjab’s Ludhiana district, a travel agent was kidnapped and assaulted by a woman from Mullanpur and her associates. The attack occurred after the woman’s nephew, who had been arranged a visa for Russia by the agent, was allegedly “deported” upon arrival at the Russian airport. According to reports, the woman, Jasveer Kaur, deceitfully lured the agent, Lovinder Singh, under the pretense of discussing another visa application. Once he arrived to meet her, Jasveer and her associates abducted him, transported him to Mullanpur and physically assaulted him. The attackers demanded a refund of Rs 3 lakh, which the agent had charged for processing her nephew's visa.
The conflict originated when Jasveer Kaur’s nephew, Amritpal Singh, was deported after his arrival in Russia. Lovinder Singh, a travel agent based in New Azad Nagar, Bapu Market, Lohara, had arranged the visa for Amritpal and he had charged Rs 3 lakh for the service. However, Amritpal was sent back to India after being denied entry into Russia, which led to a dispute between him and the agent regarding the visa payment. While the agent, Lovinder Singh, claimed that Amritpal had returned to India voluntarily, Amritpal contended that he had been forcibly deported by the Russian authorities. This disagreement became the basis of the demand for the refund of the Rs 3 lakh.
In her anger over her nephew’s deportation, Jasveer Kaur hatched a plan to recover the amount. She contacted Lovinder under the guise of needing his help with her husband’s visa and asked him to meet her near the Verka Milk Plant on Ferozepur Road. Once he arrived, Jasveer and her associates abducted him, took him to Mullanpur and assaulted him while demanding the money. The ordeal ended when Lovinder Singh managed to get in touch with a mutual friend, who reassured Jasveer and her associates that the money would be returned. After this, the group released Lovinder. He immediately went to the Sarabha Nagar police station to file a complaint. The police have identified the accused as Jasveer Kaur, her associates Raju, Bunty, and others—Gurbaz Singh, Kamaljit Kaur, and Meva Singh. An FIR has been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 140(3) (kidnapping), Section 191(3) (rioting with deadly weapons), Section 190 (unlawful assembly), and Section 61(2) (criminal conspiracy). Police are currently searching for Jasveer and her associates.
