New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): Bharat Inder Singh Chahal, former advisor to ex-Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, has been granted relief by the Supreme Court in a disproportionate assets case. The court has stayed his arrest and directed that no punitive action be taken against him at this stage. However, Chahal has been instructed to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation. The Punjab government has been asked to submit a response within four weeks.

On October 25, a Patiala court had issued arrest warrants against Chahal. In the petition filed by Chahal’s lawyer, it was argued that the 76-year-old is suffering from several health conditions and is willing to cooperate with the investigation. His bail plea was previously rejected by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on October 4.

The state’s vigilance department claims that from March 2017 to September 2021, Chahal and his family members reported an income of Rs 7.85 crore, while their expenditures amounted to Rs 31.79 crore, more than three times their known sources of income. Allegations suggest that Chahal accumulated several properties in his and his family’s name through these unexplained financial means.
