Special health advisory for children and elderly issued in Punjab as winter approaches
Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): With the arrival of winter, the Health Department has issued an advisory focused on the well-being of the elderly and children. In light of the colder weather, special precautions have been recommended for these vulnerable groups. Civil Surgeon Dr. Kirandeep Kaur has also directed officials at all government hospitals to ensure that health services remain fully operational. Following the Punjab Government's instructions, Dr. Kirandeep Kaur chaired an important meeting to discuss preparations for safeguarding the health of children and the elderly in health institutions during the winter months.
During the meeting, the availability of emergency and essential medicines, warm blankets, warmers, blowers, heaters, radiant warmers, water geysers, and hot water dispensing machines was reviewed. The maintenance of doors and windows to prevent the entry of cold air was also discussed. Additionally, health officials noted that cold nights tend to increase cases of cough, cold, diarrhea, vomiting, fever, chest tightness, and difficulty in breathing, making it crucial for the health department to be vigilant in managing patient care during this time. The meeting was attended by Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajinder Pal Kaur, District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Neelam Bhagat, District Vaccination Officer Dr. Bharti Dhawan, DDHO Dr. Jaganjot Kaur, District Health Officer Dr. Jaspal Singh, DMC Dr. Gurmeet Kaur, District Epidemiologist Dr. Harjot Kaur, MEIO Amardeep Singh, and other senior medical officers.
