School timings in Punjab changed to 9 AM starting Monday due to rising cold
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): The Punjab government has officially revised the school timings for both government and private institutions due to the onset of colder weather. Starting Monday, schools will commence at 9 AM and remain open until 3 PM. This change applies to all government, private, aided, and recognized schools across the state, with the directive issued by the Education Department.
Although the new timings were announced to take effect from November 1, the implementation will align with the upcoming school week beginning on Monday. This adjustment will impact over 19,000 schools in Punjab, ensuring that students can attend classes in a more comfortable environment during the chilly months ahead.
In Punjab, school timings are adjusted three times each academic session. From April 1 to September 30, schools operate from 8 AM to 2 PM. During October, primary schools follow a schedule of 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM, while middle to senior secondary schools run from 8:30 AM to 2:50 PM. With the new timings in place from November 1 to February 28, primary schools will operate from 9 AM to 3 PM, while middle to senior secondary schools will have slightly extended hours, running from 9 AM to 3:20 PM. This seasonal adjustment aims to enhance student comfort and well-being during the colder months.
