Rain, Strong Winds, and Hailstorms Expected from 27-29 December: IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Punjab
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab is set to experience significant weather changes between 27 and 29 December, with the Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert for rain and strong winds. Some areas may also witness hailstorms during this period.
Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Head of the Weather Department at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, stated that while hailstorms may occur in certain areas, the rain will mostly benefit crops without causing any damage. She added that strong winds are typical in cloudy weather and the overall impact of the rain would be positive for agriculture.
Currently, the daytime temperature is around 21°C, while nighttime temperatures are near 7°C. However, temperatures are expected to drop further following the rainfall, leading to an increase in cold waves. Earlier, a yellow alert for a cold wave was issued for 18 districts till 24 December due to a western disturbance in the Himalayan region, which caused temperatures to fall further.
