Punjab truck driver strikes ₹10 crore jackpot in Makar Sankranti Bumper Lottery 2025!
Ludhiana (The Uttam Hindu): In a historic win, truck driver Harpinder Singh from Barwa village in Nurpur Bedi has claimed the grand prize of Rs 10 crore in the Punjab State Dear Lohri Makar Sankranti Bumper 2025 lottery. The results of the lucky draw were announced on Saturday at the Camp Office in Ludhiana marking the largest prize money ever offered by a lottery in Punjab. According to the Punjab State Lotteries Directorate a total of 16,00,000 tickets were printed for this year's draw with a total prize pool of Rs 23,47,90,000. The first prize amounts to Rs 10,30,00,000 of which Rs 10 crore will be awarded to the winner before tax deductions. The ticket seller will receive Rs 25 lakh while the sub-stockist will win Rs 5 lakh.
Harpinder Singh who had purchased the winning ticket for Rs 500, expressed his disbelief at the win attributing it to the blessings of God. He encouraged everyone to buy a lottery ticket at least once in their lifetime. Harpinder, a regular buyer of lottery tickets for the past 15 years shared that he had faced several challenges, including raising a loan to travel to Kuwait for work and dealing with the heartbreaking loss of his son Devinder Singh’s left arm due to an accident. With his newfound fortune, Harpinder plans to start a business for his son to secure his future and provide him with decent medical treatment. He also intends to use part of the money to repay his debts.
Officials from the Punjab State Lotteries Department have confirmed that 30% of the winning amount will be deducted as tax at source (TDS) in addition to the income tax. Vendor Hemant Kakkar will receive around Rs 25 lakh, while the sub-stockist will gain Rs 5 lakh. Hemant noted that as the prize money continues to increase more people are becoming interested in participating in lotteries.
