Jalandhar, Punjab (The Uttam Hindu): The results for the municipal elections held in five cities of Punjab—Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala, and Phagwara—have been declared. In Jalandhar's Ward 48, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Harjinder Singh Ladda won by a margin of just one vote, defeating independent candidate Shivnath Shibu.

In a tragic turn of events, BJP candidate Brijmohan's defeat from Ward 26 led to the sudden death of his father, Sardari Lal Gupta, due to a heart attack.

Election Results:

- In Ludhiana, Mamta Ashu, wife of former Congress minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, lost her seat.

- Former Jalandhar Mayor Jagdish Raja and his wife, who joined AAP from Congress, also lost in the elections.

- In Amritsar, Congress candidates Raj Kanwal Lakki and Dr. Shobhit Kaur triumphed in Ward 14 and Ward 9 respectively.

- In Jalandhar, AAP emerged as the dominant party, securing 38 out of 71 wards, followed by Congress with 17, and BJP with 13.
