Punjab issues cold weather and fog alerts for 7 districts, with possibility of light rain and rising pollution levels
Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): Cold weather is expected to increase in Punjab, with an alert issued for 7 districts and a possibility of rain in the coming days. After two consecutive days of clear skies and sunshine, mornings and evenings have been chilly. The western disturbance over the western Himalayas is now active, leading to the possibility of snowfall in the mountains. If snowfall occurs, it will further intensify the cold in the plains.
According to the Meteorological Centre, fog is expected in the following 7 districts of Punjab: Amritsar, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala.
Additionally, pollution levels have been a growing concern in the region. As of now, 5 districts in Punjab are experiencing high pollution. While Chandigarh has seen a decrease in pollution levels, with the AQI dropping below 200 from over 300 in previous days, the situation remains serious in Punjab. Patiala has recorded the highest AQI at 250, followed by Ludhiana at 245, Amritsar at 241, Mandi Gobindgarh at 240, and Jalandhar at 234.
As for the weather, light fog warnings have been issued for the following cities, with expected temperature ranges:
>Amritsar: 12°C to 26°C
>Jalandhar: 10°C to 25°C
>Ludhiana: 11°C to 26°C
>Patiala: 11°C to 27°C
