Punjab Cabinet Approves Key Decisions in Latest Meeting

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In the latest Punjab Cabinet meeting, several important decisions were approved. Finance Minister S. Harpal Singh Cheema outlined one of the major decisions, which involves a new policy aimed at transferring notorious terrorists and criminals from jails in other states to Punjab. Under this policy, a prisoner incarcerated in any state's jail can be moved to Punjab, provided both the state of incarceration and the state of transfer agree, with the approval of the trial court. This move is expected to help alleviate overcrowding in Punjab's jails. Additionally, prisoners involved in crimes committed in other states can also be transferred out of Punjab.
Another key decision from the cabinet was an increase in the number of members in school committees. The committee size will now be expanded to 16 members, with 12 members being parents and 4 from the school. MLAs and MCs will also have the opportunity to appoint their own members to the committee. The committee chairman will be selected from among the parents, enabling MLAs and MCs to stay informed about the school's needs.
The cabinet also approved an amendment to the 'Punjab Children's Right to Free and Compulsory Education Rules-2011'. Additionally, new rules were approved for Group-A officers in the Social Security, Women and Child Development Department, aimed at improving the department’s functioning and benefiting the weaker and backward sections of society.
