Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Wednesday, 20 November, will see by-elections for 15 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala, and Uttarakhand, with polling starting from 7 am. November 23 will be when the votes will be counted. In Punjab, by-elections will take place in four assembly constituencies: Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal (SC), and Barnala. These by-elections are being held because the MLAs elected from these constituencies went on to win Lok Sabha seats during the general elections held earlier this year.Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak, and Chabbewal had been constituencies of the Congress party while the AAP holds Barnala.

These by-elections have potentially massive consequences for some of the most high-profile contenders: former Punjab finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal, of BJP, and Congress's Amrita Warring and Jatinder Kaur, besides AAP's Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon, Dr. Ishank Kumar Chabbewal, as well as BJP's Kewal Singh Dhillon, Sohan Singh Thandal, and Ravikaran Singh Kahlon.

Amrita Warring is the wife of Punjab Congress president and Ludhiana MP, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring. Jatinder Kaur is the wife of Gurdaspur MP and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.
