Batala Police Bust Extortion Racket, 2 ASI Arrested; Seize ₹83 lakh

Batala (The Uttam Hindu): Batala police have successfully dismantled a major extortion racket operated by Gurdev Jassal, based in the United States. Two individuals, ASI Surjit Singh and Ankush Maini, have been arrested for their roles in collecting and distributing the extortion money. The investigation revealed that on February 4, associates of Jassal had fired shots at a businessman’s petrol pump in Kalanaur. Following continuous threats and a demand for ₹1 crore, the businessman eventually paid ₹50 lakh on February 11.
Jassal's gang had used foreign numbers to make threats and facilitate payments, ensuring the extortion money was funneled through several intermediaries. Police have recovered ₹83 lakh, illegal firearms, and luxury vehicles from the arrested individuals.
