Jalandhar (Khurana) (The Uttam Hindu): – Security has been enhanced at 188 strategic locations in Smart City Jalandhar. With an investment of approximately 78 crore rupees, the city has installed over 1000 CCTV cameras at these locations, with trial runs currently underway. A dedicated control and command center has been set up at the police lines to monitor all activities in the city. As part of this project, a small viewing center has been established at the Municipal Corporation complex, near the Mayor’s office, where the surveillance feeds are being monitored. On Wednesday, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Gautam Jain conducted a trial of the system, accompanied by Health Officer Dr. Shri Krishna Sharma, Sanitary Inspector Ashok Bhil, and Saurabh Sandhu. During the trial, the Commissioner instructed officials to expand the number of screens and enlarge the existing ones, and to arrange additional facilities. The project also covers key dumping areas in the city, where CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor the activity at locations such as Model Town Dump, BMC Dump, Pratap Bagh Dump, Foldiwal Dump, and the STP complex. Through these cameras, the Municipal Corporation will be able to track individuals who illegally dispose of garbage at these sites, as well as monitor commercial waste delivery. The system will also help identify the timing and amount of waste collection, as well as the current state of the dumps.
