Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu) : Residents from Vikaspuri, New Vikaspuri, Ambika Colony, Guru Ram Dass Nagar, and Santokh Pura Navi Abadi staged a protest against the Municipal Corporation (MC) today, calling for the relocation of the large garbage dump situated on Vikaspuri Tanda Road. They are urging that the dump be moved to a non-residential area to mitigate its impact on the community.

Protesters expressed concerns about the dump encroaching on a significant portion of the road, leading to garbage spilling onto the main thoroughfare and creating serious safety hazards. The presence of stray animals at the site poses additional risks, while the scattered refuse contributes to health concerns within the area. Resident Sanjay Verma highlighted that the dump not only detracts from the neighborhood's appearance but also negatively affects the environment and public health.

Although the protest was initially scheduled to last four hours, it concluded after just one hour when MC officials stepped in. They assured residents that a meeting would be arranged with the MC Commissioner to discuss their grievances, with the meeting set for the following day.
