Olampian Akashdeep Singh and Olympian Monika Malik from Haryana marked their engagement at a private resort on November 13. Several prominent hockey personalities attended the function including former Indian Hockey team captain Manpreet Singh, present Captain Harmanpreet Singh, Sardara Singh, and some other coaches who played a significant part of his early development.


Avtar Singh, coach at Surjit Academy, expressed happiness over the alliance of these two hockey stars. "Akashdeep was a very young boy when I used to train him under my guidance. He has been invariably hardworking throughout," said Avtar Singh.


His career reflects that he has featured in more than 250 matches, and he has made international goals over 90 times. He was a gold medal winner with India during the Asian Games when he also qualified for India's list for the 2016 Rio Olympics. As an individual, Akashdeep was a silver medal winner at Hockey Champions Trophy in London. Within the eighteen months of the Games, Akashdeep was appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).


The couple will tie the knot on November 15 in Mohali.
