High Court Questions Punjab Govt: Why Hasn’t the SSP Been Suspended Yet in Bishnoi Interview Case?
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): The Punjab and Haryana High Court has reprimanded the Punjab government in the case related to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's interview. During the hearing, the court questioned why no action had been taken against the then-SSP. It pointed out that when crimes occur in jail, the jail warden is suspended, but no action had been taken against the SSP.
The next hearing is scheduled for December 10.
During the hearing, the court also questioned the Punjab Police about how they became aware of the gangster's interview. The Punjab Police had already suspended seven officers, including two DSPs, in connection with the interview. The High Court had previously directed the police to take action against all officers involved in the interview.
The interview with Lawrence Bishnoi was aired on March 14, 2023, on a private channel, during which he admitted to his involvement in the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala. He also made several other revelations. Following the broadcast, the Punjab Police faced criticism for the security lapse.
In a subsequent interview, Lawrence even showed proof of how he was able to get a mobile phone in jail. He revealed his prison barrack and explained that while he was not allowed to leave, the mobile phone and signal were still accessible to him.
