Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): At Sri Guru Ram Dass Ji International Airport in Amritsar, authorities discovered gold paste concealed in a man’s underwear. The seized gold weighs approximately 2.64 kilograms and is valued at ₹1.50 crore. The gold was being smuggled from Dubai to India. Customs officials have confiscated the gold.

According to reports, the accused is currently being interrogated. He had arrived in Amritsar yesterday on a SpiceJet flight from Dubai. During routine customs checks, officials grew suspicious of the individual. Upon inspection, they found gold paste hidden in his undergarments.

Similar cases reported earlier

The gold paste, when refined, yielded about 2 kilograms of pure gold, worth approximately ₹1.50 crore in the international market. This method of smuggling gold in paste form is not new. Similar cases have been reported at airports in the past. Recently, smugglers have been using this technique by painting the gold paste onto fabric.

Undetectable by metal detectors

The gold paste appears similar to shiny paint, making it difficult for metal detectors to detect. This method is employed by smugglers to evade airport security checks.
