Farmers march to Parliament: 5,000 set to gather, Delhi-UP on high alert
Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu):Farmer unions in Uttar Pradesh have declared their plan to march towards Parliament. Farmers will assemble near the Mahamaya Flyover in Noida at 12 noon. Following this announcement, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Police have been placed on high alert, with checkpoints set up across key locations. Section 144 has also been imposed in Noida.
Barricading at Delhi-UP border
To prevent the farmers from advancing, senior police officials have been deployed, and barricades have been erected at the Chilla Border connecting Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Drones are being used for surveillance, and vehicles are being thoroughly checked, resulting in a 4-5 kilometer traffic jam. Noida Traffic Police has issued an advisory, diverting several routes.
Farmers’ demands include:
>Allocation of 10% of plots in exchange for land acquisition.
>Compensation for 64.7% of farmers.
>Compensation as per the acquisition law, offering four times the market rate.
>Employment and rehabilitation benefits for farmers' children.
Punjab farmers to march on December 6
Punjab farmer unions have also announced a march towards Delhi on December 6. Punjab farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher stated that the unions would begin their journey on foot to Delhi as part of their protest.
