Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): A case was registered at Police Station Cantt on December 30 of last year, in which Constable Balkar Singh, posted in the 80th Battalion of PAP, has been arrested on charges of fraud in Jalandhar. Balkar is accused of defrauding farmer Ranjodh Singh of Rs 18,15,220 by promising to send his son and daughter to Canada on work permits.

In the case, Balkar’s daughter Lovejot Kaur, niece Harvinder Kaur (a resident of Beja village in Gurdaspur), and Sandeep Kaur from Batala are being sought by the police.

According to Ranjodh Singh's complaint to the commissioner, his daughter, Jaspreet Kaur, was pursuing a nursing course, where she befriended Lovejot Kaur. Lovejoy informed Ranjodh that they work in sending people to Canada. Subsequently, Ranjodh met Balkar Singh and his daughter at the PAP government quarters. Balkar, claiming to be posted in the 80th Battalion of PAP, promised to send his daughter to Canada for Rs 30 lakh.

Ranjodh provided the passports of his son and daughter and paid Rs 18,15,220, with Rs 4 lakh transferred to Lovejot's account and Rs 5 lakh to Harvinder Kaur's account. However, despite the passage of time, his children were not sent to Canada. When Ranjodh visited Balkar’s home, he was told that his relative, Sandeep Kaur from Batala, was handling the matter. After some time, Balkar informed him that the process had not been completed.

On August 10 of the previous year, Balkar returned the passports of Ranjodh’s son and daughter, promising to return the money by September 15. However, the money was never returned. During the investigation, Balkar's wife was given a clean chit.
