Elections are Back on Track in Punjab, Notification Released!
Jalandhar(The Uttam Hindu): After nearly two years of delay, the path for the Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council, and Panchayat elections has finally cleared. The government has issued a notification regarding these elections.
According to the notification, these elections will be held at the end of December. Elections will be conducted in five municipal corporations of Punjab: Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Phagwara, while by-elections will also be held in the vacant seats of the municipal corporations of Bathinda, Batala, Hoshiarpur, and Abohar. In Hoshiarpur, elections will be held for three seats, while in the others, elections will be held for one seat each.Although the notification does not mention specific polling dates, it is clear that the elections will take place by the end of December.
Additionally, separate notifications have been issued for the Municipal Councils and Panchayats in Punjab, with elections also scheduled for the end of December. It is noteworthy that while the elections are scheduled for the end of December, the last week of December coincides with the celebration of Christmas on December 25 and the Shaheedi Diwas of Sahibzadas, which could prevent elections from taking place during that week. Therefore, the elections are expected to be completed before December 25.
