Deadly Attack on NHAI Workers in Punjab, NHAI Writes to DGP Gaurav Yadav Demanding Action
Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu):The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has written a letter to Punjab's Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, expressing concern over the violent incidents occurring on national highways. NHAI officials highlighted a recent attack on workers at a road construction site connecting Amritsar, Mehta, Sri Hargobindpur, Tanda, and Hoshiarpur on November 27, 2024. The workers were attacked, resulting in serious injuries to one of them. The letter urges immediate action in response to the incident.
Attack by Armed Assailants Creates Atmosphere of Fear Among Workers and Contractors
According to reports, the assailants were armed with swords, sticks, and other weapons when they attacked the workers. NHAI officials have submitted photographs of the incident to the police. The injured workers were rushed to Guru Ramdas Hospital for treatment. Following the attack, contractors and workers in the area have expressed fear and insecurity.
Allegations of Administrative Negligence
NHAI informed the SSPs of Amritsar and Hoshiarpur about the incident, but no action has been taken by the police so far. This inaction has resulted in hindrances to the national development project and further exacerbated the situation.
NHAI Urges Strict Action and Enhanced Security Measures
NHAI has demanded that Punjab Police take strict measures to prevent such violent incidents from recurring. The authority has called for action against the perpetrators and the deployment of additional police forces at the project sites to ensure the safety of workers. NHAI emphasized that such attacks not only demoralize workers but also disrupt national-level projects.
