Cold Wave Hits Punjab, 7 Days of Dry Weather Ahead as Temperatures Plummet in the Plains
Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu):From today, Punjab is expected to experience dry weather for the next seven days. According to the meteorological department, a western disturbance has become active, bringing the possibility of rain and snowfall in several areas of Himachal Pradesh. Some regions have already received fresh snowfall, which has led to a slight drop in temperature in the plains of Punjab. The Meteorological Center has stated that winds are blowing from the mountains toward the plains, and after the recent snowfall, the daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to drop by 2 to 3 degrees in the coming days.
Chandigarh AQI Below 200
In Ludhiana and Amritsar, the Air Quality Index (AQI) has once again crossed 200, while in other cities it remains between 100 and 200. However, Chandigarh has experienced some relief as the wind direction has shifted to the west, leading to a slight improvement in air pollution levels. The AQI in Chandigarh is now below 200.
Three Days of Snowfall Expected in Himachal’s High Altitudes
In Himachal Pradesh, there is a forecast for rain and snowfall over the next three days, especially in the high-altitude regions. This is expected to blanket the higher peaks of five districts—Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Kangra, and Chamba—with a layer of snow. However, the ongoing drought in the other seven districts is expected to persist for the time being.
Weather Change in Haryana Due to Western Disturbance
The active western disturbance has brought a change in weather to Haryana. Many districts are experiencing light fog in the mornings and evenings, along with a noticeable drop in temperatures. In the last 24 hours, there has been a decrease in the minimum night temperatures.
Cyclone Fani to Hit Puducherry and Tamil Nadu Today
Cyclone Fani, which originated in the Bay of Bengal, is expected to make landfall by Saturday evening between Karaikal in Puducherry and Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu. The meteorological department predicts winds of up to 90 km/h during this time, and heavy rainfall is expected in some areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
As a result, all schools and colleges will remain closed on Saturday, and people have been advised to stay indoors. Coastal areas have already started experiencing rain and strong winds since November 28, with the effects of the cyclone becoming increasingly visible.
