New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu):The Central Government has commenced the process of acquiring land for the highly anticipated Delhi-Amritsar Bullet Train project, which will span 465 km and connect the two cities in just two hours. Aimed at enhancing travel efficiency, the high-speed rail corridor will pass through 321 villages across Punjab and Haryana. Survey work is underway to expedite the process.

The bullet train will make stops at 15 stations, including Chandigarh, and is designed to achieve a maximum speed of 350 km/h, with an operational speed of 320 km/h and an average speed of 250 km/h. Each trip will accommodate approximately 750 passengers.

Land Acquisition Overview

In total, 343 villages in Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab will be impacted by the land acquisition. In Punjab alone, land will be acquired from 186 villages, with district-wise breakdown as follows:

<Mohali: 39 villages

<Jalandhar: 49 villages

<Ludhiana: 37 villages

<Amritsar: 22 villages

<Fatehgarh Sahib: 25 villages

<Kapurthala: 12 villages

<Tarn Taran: 1 village

<Rupnagar: 1 village

The Indian Infrastructure and Investment Management Agency (IIMR) is holding meetings with farmers whose land is being acquired, assuring them of compensation five times the prevailing collector rates in their villages. Extensive surveys are being conducted by central and railway authorities to facilitate the acquisition.
