Bullet fired from constable brother's rifle: Hit sister's head, accused took the body from hospital without informing police

Amritsar (Punjab) (The Uttam Hindu): A heartbreaking incident occurred when Ritika, a resident of Green Field, Majitha Road, was fatally shot by Anurag, a constable from the 9th Battalion of Punjab Armed Police. The shooting, which took place on March 19, left Ritika critically injured and she was admitted to a private hospital near Verka.
ASI Gurnam Singh, who was on duty at the time, was informed of the incident and went to the hospital with his team to record Ritika’s statement. However, the doctors informed them that Ritika had been shot in the head and was not in a condition to provide a statement. They were told to wait for her to regain consciousness.
When ASI Singh returned to the hospital the next day, he was told that Ritika had passed away. Shockingly, her brother, Anurag, took her body from the hospital, showing his identity card from the 9th Battalion of Punjab Armed Police, without informing the police. When the police arrived at Ritika's home for further investigation, they found the house locked.
As the investigation progressed, it was revealed that Ritika's death was caused by a bullet fired accidentally from Anurag’s rifle due to his carelessness. Based on these findings, a case has been filed against Anurag for unintentional murder and for tampering with the body.
Sub Inspector Gurinder Singh confirmed that raids are underway to arrest the accused, who remains on the run. This tragic incident has sparked concerns about firearm safety and the consequences of negligent actions.
