Amritsar Police Busts Trans-Border Narco Smuggling and Arms Cartel, Arrests Two, Seizes Drugs and Firearms
Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): In a major breakthrough, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully dismantled a trans-border narcotics smuggling and arms trafficking network, arresting two individuals and recovering substantial quantities of illegal drugs and firearms. Punjab's Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, announced the arrests and seizures on Sunday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Vansh alias Billa, 23, from Billai Wala Chowk, Amritsar, and Sonu Chaurasia, 20, from Dashmesh Nagar, Amritsar. DGP Yadav stated that further investigations are ongoing to uncover both the origins and destinations of the smuggling activities. Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, shared details of the operation carried out by the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) in Amritsar. Acting on reliable intelligence, police teams apprehended Vansh in the Mohkampura area, where they seized 3.5 kg of heroin, 1.5 kg of methaqualone powder, and a 9MM Glock pistol.
In a separate operation based on intelligence about illegal weapons trafficking, police arrested Sonu Chaurasia at the Suncity turn on Batala Road, Mohkampura, recovering a .32 bore pistol. Ongoing investigations may lead to further arrests and recoveries in the coming days. Two separate FIRs have been registered against the accused: FIR No. 98, dated November 14, 2024, under sections 21-C and 29 of the NDPS Act and section 25(8) of the Arms Act; and FIR No. 97, dated November 14, 2024, under section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Mohkampura.
