Akali Dal to hold protest in Jalandhar today
Party leaders to rally in support of farmers and against the government, with plans to meet the Deputy Commissioner.
Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) will stage a protest in Jalandhar, Punjab today, starting outside the Deputy Commissioner's office. This demonstration, announced by the party a few days ago, is in response to ongoing issues with the government over paddy management. The protest will begin at 11 am, followed by the submission of a memorandum of demands to Jalandhar DC, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, under the leadership of senior SAD figures.
Kulwant Singh Mannan, a senior SAD leader from Jalandhar, shared this information. The protest, which has been organized by Shiromani Akali Dal statewide, comes as part of a broader call for action on issues related to paddy procurement and the shortage of DAP fertilizer in Punjab. SAD Working President Balwinder Singh Bhundar had instructed all party workers to take part in today's protest, urging it as a way to "wake the government from its slumber."
Farmers across Punjab are facing a major crisis due to the lack of paddy purchases. For the past 15-20 days, farmers have been waiting in markets to sell their crops, but there has been no significant purchase activity or proper lifting arrangements in place.
