New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu):BEML Limited has secured a major contract from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) to design, manufacture, and commission India's first high-speed trains, which will be capable of reaching a test speed of 280 km/h. This groundbreaking project, valued at ₹866.87 crores, marks a significant step towards realizing India's high-speed rail ambitions.

The contract involves the production of two high-speed trainsets, each consisting of eight cars. The cost of each car is approximately ₹27.86 crores, and the overall contract covers not only the design and development expenses but also non-recurring charges and capital expenditures for tools, jigs, fixtures, and testing equipment that will support future high-speed rail projects across India.

BEML will manufacture the trains at its Bengaluru rail coach complex, with the scheduled delivery by the end of 2026. The trains will be fully air-conditioned and designed with modern passenger amenities such as reclining and rotatable seats, provisions for passengers with reduced mobility, and onboard infotainment systems.

This initiative is part of India's broader efforts to modernize its rail network and improve transportation efficiency, particularly in high-speed rail corridors like the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route. BEML's involvement strengthens its leadership position in rolling stock manufacturing and contributes significantly to the nation's vision of a faster, more efficient rail system, which is expected to enhance connectivity and foster economic growth.
