New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the Chief Guest at Mauritius’ National Day celebrations on March 12, 2025, following a State Visit to the island nation from March 11-12. This visit is at the invitation of Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.

During his visit, PM Modi will meet the President of Mauritius, hold discussions with the Prime Minister, and engage with senior political leaders of the country. He will also interact with the Indian-origin community and inaugurate two key projects funded by India: the Civil Service College and the Area Health Centre. In addition, several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be exchanged.

A contingent of Indian Defence Forces, including a ship from the Indian Navy, will participate in the National Day celebrations. This is a part of strengthening the ongoing bilateral relations between India and Mauritius, which are grounded in shared historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties.

India has reaffirmed its commitment to its Vision SAGAR (Security And Growth for All in the Region), with Mauritius playing an important role in the region’s security and growth. Prime Minister Modi's visit is expected to further reinforce the strong bond between the two countries and enhance cooperation in various sectors.

Mauritius Prime Minister Ramgoolam had earlier expressed his honor at hosting PM Modi, acknowledging the significance of the visit. He emphasized that the visit symbolizes the enduring relationship between India and Mauritius, despite the Prime Minister’s busy international schedule.
