PM Modi Reaffirms India's Commitment to Water Conservation on World Water Day

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): On the occasion of World Water Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India's commitment to water conservation and sustainable development. Recognizing water as the lifeblood of civilizations he emphasized the need for collective action to safeguard this invaluable resource for future generations.
In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi stated, "On World Water Day, we reaffirm our commitment to conserve water and promote sustainable development. Water has been the lifeline of civilisations and thus it is more important to protect it for the future generations!"
Simultaneously, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the Government of Haryana, launched the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: 'Catch the Rain - 2025' campaign. The initiative focuses on increasing public awareness around water security, rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge, especially in the face of climate change and the growing water crisis.
The campaign, themed "People's Action for Water Conservation - Towards Intensified Community Connect," will focus on 148 districts across India. It aims to strengthen the collaboration between government agencies, communities, and stakeholders to ensure the sustainable management of the country's water resources. The Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain - 2025 campaign also encourages nationwide awareness and grassroots participation with the vision of making the slogan "Every Drop Counts" a reality.
World Water Day, observed every year on March 22 since 1993, is a United Nations initiative to raise awareness about the importance of freshwater. This year's celebration reinforces the significance of Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to ensure access to water and sanitation for all by 2030.
With this campaign, India seeks to unite its citizens in the vital mission of securing the country's water future and tackling the pressing water challenges ahead.
