India Takes the Spotlight at asia Pacific Cultural center’s 27th annual NYE Fest

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India was showcased as the theme country for the first time at the Asia Pacific Cultural Center’s (APCC) 27th Annual New Year's Celebration at the Tacoma Dome in Washington, marking a historic moment for the APCC, which has been operating in the state for over two decades. The celebration highlighted India's rich cultural heritage and vibrant art forms through a series of performances, including Bhangra, Garba, Bharata Natyam, Kuchipudi, Odissi and the Tamil martial art Silambam. The event was attended by approximately 50 elected leaders from Washington state, including US Congressional Representatives Marilyn Strickland and Emily Randall, Washington State Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck and State House Speaker Laurie Jenkins. The Consul General of India in Seattle presented each official with the Indian tricolor and video messages from Washington Governor Bob Ferguson, US Senator Maria Cantwell and US Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal were also shared during the ceremony.
A special photo exhibition titled “India Through Tim’s Eyes,” featuring India’s top tourist destinations captured by Seattle-based photographer Tim Durkan, was also part of the event. The APCC, established in 1996, represents 47 different countries and cultures from the Asia Pacific region. Through its various events and activities, it fosters cross-cultural awareness and promotes understanding of the history, arts, culture and heritage of Asia-Pacific communities in Washington State.
