New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has successfully developed an indigenous technology to produce paracetamol a widely used pain reliever and fever reducer. This breakthrough aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat,” aiming to reduce India’s reliance on imported raw materials for the drug. Currently the country imports key ingredients for paracetamol but this new technology promises to make India self-sufficient in its production. Karnataka-based Satya Deeptha Pharmaceuticals Ltd will leverage this innovation to produce affordable paracetamol domestically. In addition, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister highlighted other significant indigenous developments such as India’s first indigenously developed antibiotic, Nafithromycin which is used to treat drug-resistant bacteria.

The minister also celebrated the 40th Foundation Day of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) marking 16 technology transfers from CSIR-CSIO Chennai and CSIR-CEERI Pilani. These technologies span areas such as IoT-enabled scientific instruments and healthcare solutions. One MoU was signed between CSIO and ELCIA Bengaluru focusing on the development of sensors. Dr. Singh praised the rapid technological progress achieved by India in recent years attributing it to the leadership of PM Modi who has championed technological innovation for the nation's benefit. He stressed the importance of exploring non-government funding and collaboration for further innovation, pointing to the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (NRF) which aims to raise 60% of its funds from non-government sectors. Professor AK Sood Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India further emphasized the need for India to shift towards a product-based economy to fully harness its technological potential. This story marks another chapter in India's journey towards greater self-reliance and innovation in the pharmaceutical and scientific fields.
