New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In celebration of International Women's Day 2025, Google dedicated a special doodle recognizing the groundbreaking contributions of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The doodle, released on March 8, honors the vital role women have played in shaping history through space exploration, ancient discoveries, and lab research.

International Women's Day is celebrated globally on March 8 each year to raise awareness about the challenges women face worldwide. This year’s theme, “For all women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,” emphasizes the ongoing struggle for gender equality. First recognized by the United Nations in 1975, the day highlights the essential contributions women have made across all fields, particularly in science and technology.

In its blog post, Google highlighted the work of women who have revolutionized space exploration, uncovered ancient secrets, and pioneered research that transformed our understanding of the sciences. The tech giant emphasized that the featured achievements are just a fraction of the work women have done to advance scientific knowledge. Despite this, women still represent only 29% of the global STEM workforce, revealing the significant gender gap that remains in these fields.

Google noted that while significant progress has been made, STEM continues to be an area where gender disparities persist. However, many women worldwide are breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, and inspiring the next generation to pursue careers in science and technology.

“International Women’s Day serves as a powerful reminder that women’s achievements have shaped our world throughout history,” Google said. “It is because of their collective brilliance that we can experience the wonders of the modern world.”

Happy International Women's Day 2025!
