Whether you're enjoying it on a chilly morning or as a midday pick-me-up, Masala Chai offers the perfect balance of warmth, sweetness and spice. Now, let me share my perfected version of this beloved recipe passed down through countless cups and lots of practice!

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cooking Time: 7 minutes

Ingredients:

- 1 cup water

- 1 cup milk (Whole milk gives the best flavor)

- 2 teaspoons black tea

- 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

- 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

- 3 teaspoons fresh ginger (grated, with skin)

- 4 teaspoons sugar

Now that you’ve gathered your ingredients, it’s time to jump into the fun part—making your own Masala Chai!

1. Combine 1 cup of water with black tea and all the ground spices.

2. Bring the mixture to a boil. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat or take it off the stove.

3. Add 1 cup of milk to the mixture.

4. Bring it back to a boil, then reduce the heat to simmer.

5. Repeat this boiling and simmering process three more times.

6. Once the mixture has boiled four times, add the sugar and bring it to a boil one last time.

7. After the fifth boil, it’s ready to go!

8. Strain the mixture through a mesh tea strainer or cheesecloth to remove the tea leaves and spices. Serve while hot.

It might seem like a bit of work, but trust me, the effort pays off with a rich, flavorful chai that’ll make it all worthwhile. Enjoy your homemade Masala Chai—one cup and you’ll be hooked!
