Weather Update: Bone-Chilling Cold Wave Hits North India, Snowfall Intensifies in Hills | IMD Warns of Freezing Temperatures Ahead
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The temperature has dropped across several states in the country. The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave alert for the plains of North India. Meanwhile, snowfall is occurring in the higher regions of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand. The snowfall season has begun in the hilly states. Heavy snowfall has been reported in the higher regions of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand. Kedarnath Valley and Badrinath in Uttarakhand have also seen significant snowfall. Light snowfall has also been recorded in parts of Nainital and the Kumaon region. The snowfall in the mountains is now affecting the plains as well.
Temperature Expected to Drop Further
Due to the snowfall in the mountains, there is a possibility of more severe cold in Delhi and NCR. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that the cold wave will continue for the next two to three days, causing a further drop in temperature and intensifying the cold.
What will the weather be like in Delhi?
According to IMD, the minimum temperature in Delhi on Sunday (December 15) is expected to be around 5°C, with a maximum temperature reaching 21°C. The sky will remain clear during the day, with strong sunlight and chilly winds. On Monday, the minimum temperature in Delhi is expected to be 6°C, with the maximum also at 21°C. The weather in Delhi-NCR will remain clear on Monday as well, with strong sunlight and the continuation of the cold wave.
Cold Wave Alert for These States
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a cold wave in many parts of the country next week. IMD has stated that from December 19 to 25, a cold wave is expected in Rajasthan, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab.
Temperature Drop Expected in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh
According to IMD, the minimum temperature in various parts of Rajasthan may drop to 5°C or even lower. In certain areas of Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, the minimum temperature could drop by 5 to 7°C below normal.
Cold Conditions to Persist Next Week
The Meteorological Department has indicated that there will be no significant change in the forecasted minimum temperatures during the week of December 19-25. However, the latest IMD bulletin mentions that in most parts of North-Western, Central, and Eastern India, the minimum temperature is expected to remain below 10°C.
