Tragic Belief: Son Feeds Kerosene to Paralyzed Mother, Woman Dies After Son’s Superstition

Bhopal (The Uttam Hindu): In a horrifying incident from Ganga Nagar slum area, a 32-year-old son allegedly fed kerosene to his 48-year-old paralytic mother under the false belief that it would cure her. Unfortunately, the woman’s health deteriorated rapidly, leading to her death a week later in the hospital. The victim, Mangla Bamnere, a housewife, suffered a stroke on January 28. Her son, Umesh Bamnere, who works as a scrap dealer, was told by someone that consuming kerosene could help treat paralysis. Acting on this superstition, Umesh forced his mother to drink kerosene.
After ingesting the kerosene, Mangla’s condition worsened, prompting Umesh to take her to a private hospital. She was later referred to AIIMS, where she succumbed to her condition after a week of treatment. Following the death, the police recorded Mangla’s statement at the hospital and registered a case against Umesh for unintentional murder.
Investigations are underway. This tragic incident underscores the perils of superstition and its devastating consequences. The misguided belief, born out of ignorance, has led to a senseless loss of life and shattered a family. The Kamla Nagar police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
