Prayagraj (The Uttam Hindu): At least 30 people have died and over 60 have been injured in a stampede at the Sangam shore during the Maha Kumbh. According to officials, the barricades collapsed due to the pressure of the crowd, causing the stampede. DIG Mela Vaibhav Krishna stated that 25 out of the 30 deceased have been identified. The injured have been admitted to the hospital in Sector-2 of the Kumbh area. Officials who reached the site said that there was no VIP protocol in place.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the incident and ordered an investigation. He has assured that the responsibility for the incident will be taken and the families of the deceased will be provided assistance. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation of 25 lakh rupees for the families of those who lost their lives in the stampede at the Maha Kumbh.

After the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appealed to devotees to bathe at nearby ghats and avoid heading towards the Sangam Nauj. He mentioned that several ghats have been constructed where people can bathe easily. Saints also appealed to devotees to maintain discipline and not pay attention to rumors. Akhada Parishad President Ravindra Puri stated that controlling such a large crowd is difficult, and the safety of the devotees is the most important concern.

A helpline number (1920) has been issued for information regarding the injured. According to officials, the barricades collapsed due to the heavy crowd, and people were trampled. After the incident, Kumbh Mela administration has decided to strengthen security arrangements.
