Terror in the Skies: Air India Flight Triggers Hijack Panic, Leaves Passengers Shaken

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A hijack alarm went off on Air India flight AI 2957, which was en route from Delhi to Mumbai, causing widespread panic. However, it was later confirmed to be a false alarm. Following the incident, security agencies were placed on high alert, and a thorough security check was conducted at Mumbai Airport.
The flight had 126 passengers onboard. Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft’s transponder transmitted the 'squawk 7500' code, which is typically recognized as a distress signal indicating a hijacking. Upon receiving the signal, Air Traffic Control (ATC) immediately alerted security agencies.
In response to the hijack alarm, all security agencies, including the National Security Guard (NSG), were placed on high alert at Mumbai Airport. The aircraft was redirected to a separate area, and all passengers were safely evacuated. Later, the pilot clarified that it was a false alarm, possibly triggered by a technical malfunction. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has ordered an investigation into the incident. Officials from the ministry stated that they are working to determine the cause of the alarm. Although the alarm turned out to be false, the incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of air travel and highlighted the need for further improvements in aviation security.
