Sambhal(The Uttam Hindu): In Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, tensions escalated during a survey at the Jama Masjid, as an angry crowd pelted stones at the police. To disperse the mob, the police fired tear gas shells. The unrest began when a survey team, led by an advocate commissioner, visited the mosque for the second time under court orders. The situation took a violent turn with the crowd attacking the police and engaging in heavy stone pelting, which was captured on video. In the footage, senior police officers, including SP Krishna Kumar Bishnoi and DM Dr. Rajendra Pensia, are seen wearing helmets amidst the chaos.

The survey team entered the Jama Masjid at around 7:30 AM. Initially, the situation was calm, but about an hour later, a large crowd gathered, leading to heated arguments with the police. Efforts to pacify the crowd by SP and DM were met with slogans and resistance. Despite appeals by the mosque's management, the crowd refused to disperse, eventually resorting to stone pelting. The police had to use tear gas to control the situation.

The survey was ordered by the Chandausi Civil Judge Senior Division, Aditya Singh, on November 19, 2024. The advocate commissioner’s team had visited the site earlier but faced significant resistance today during their follow-up visit. Currently, the atmosphere in Sambhal remains tense.
