Supreme Court Shocks with Denial to Hear Shambhu Border Farmers' Protest Case, Find Out Why!
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Supreme Court has refused to hear the case related to the Shambhu Border farmers' protest, citing that the matter has already been addressed and is under consideration in court. A bench of Justices Suryakant and Manoj Kumar dismissed the petition, stating that there is already a pending petition on this issue.
The public interest litigation sought directions from the central government as well as the state governments of Punjab and Haryana to open all highways, including the Shambhu Border. The petitioner argued that blocking highways infringes on people's fundamental rights and is a crime under the National Highway Act and the Indian Penal Code. The petition also demanded strict action against those blocking the highways.
It is important to note that the protesting farmers have temporarily postponed their Delhi march. They stated that this decision was made after the police action during the protest on December 8. Farmers have accused the police of using tear gas shells and rubber bullets during the protest, which left 6 to 8 farmers injured. One of the injured farmers was referred to PGI, Chandigarh, in critical condition.
