New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): The heatwave declared by the Meteorological Department has severely impacted Gujarat, with Surendranagar recording the highest temperature. Even coastal cities like Surat are experiencing extreme heat. On Wednesday, six cities recorded temperatures 8°C above normal. A cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan and a trough at five kilometers above sea level have intensified heat in Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Surendranagar recorded 42.8°C, 8.4°C above normal, while Bhuj saw 42.4°C, also 8°C above normal. Surat, despite a slight drop, remained unbearably hot at 40°C, 5.5°C above normal. Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar recorded 41.2°C, 7°C above normal, while Rajkot saw 42.3°C, 8°C higher than usual. Other hotspots included Amreli at 41.6°C, Disa at 41.6°C, and Naliya at 41.4°C. A red alert has been issued in seven districts, including Rajkot, while Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and four others are under an orange alert. Vadodara and four more districts face a yellow alert.

Temperatures in Saurashtra, Kutch, North, and South Gujarat are expected to remain between 40-43°C during Holi. An orange alert is in effect for Kutch, Banaskantha, Morbi, Surendranagar, Rajkot, and Surat, while Sabarkantha, Porbandar, and Bhavnagar are on a yellow alert. Hot and humid conditions are expected in Jamnagar, Dwarka, Junagadh, Amreli, Ahmedabad, Anand, Bharuch, Navsari, and Valsad.
