New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): General Vijay Kumar Singh (retd) will take office as the new Governor of Mizoram on January 9 replacing Hari Babu Kambhampati who was appointed Governor of Odisha by President Droupadi Murmu on December 24. A senior Mizoram government official confirmed that General Singh is set to arrive in Aizawl on January 8 with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for the next day at Circular Lawn Raj Bhawan. Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma expressed his gratitude to both the outgoing Governor Kambhampati and the incoming Governor Singh. In a post on X he thanked Kambhampati for his service as Mizoram's Governor and wished him success in his new role in Odisha. He also welcomed General Singh and expressed optimism for his leadership in the state. Kambhampati who served as Mizoram's Governor since 2021 was a former teacher at Andhra University Engineering College for 24 years.

General VK Singh who has had a distinguished career in the Indian Army as the 24th Chief of Army Staff transitioned into politics after his retirement. He was elected as a Member of Parliament from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, in both the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket. In Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first term he served as the Minister of State for External Affairs and Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER). In the second term of the Modi government he held the portfolios of Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation. This leadership transition comes with high hopes for continued development and progress in Mizoram under General Singh's guidance.
