New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on Thursday for the passing of T P Gopalan Nambiar, founder of the BPL Group. He described Nambiar as a pioneering innovator and industrialist who strongly advocated for making India economically robust. "Shri TPG Nambiar Ji was a pioneering innovator and industrialist, who was a strong votary of making India economically strong. Pained by his passing away. Condolences to his family and admirers," Modi shared in a post on X.

Nambiar, 94, had been unwell for some time and passed away at his residence in Bengaluru around 10:15 am, according to family members. Known popularly as TPG, he was the father-in-law of BJP leader and former Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa also mourned Nambiar’s death on X, stating, "Saddened by the passing of Shri TPG Nambiar, founder of the iconic BPL brand, who has been a close acquaintance for a long time. Shri Nambiar's enormous contributions and legacy will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his loved ones."

Additionally, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan offered their condolences. The chief minister remarked on Nambiar’s significant role in advancing India's telecommunications industry and noted that his initiatives inspired many entering the industrial sector. Satheesan highlighted Nambiar’s visionary leadership and transformative impact on India’s electronics manufacturing, crediting his dedication and hard work for BPL's success in the 1990s. "Heartfelt condolences on the passing of TPG Nambiar. My thoughts are with his family and friends during this time of grief," he added.
