Chanigarh(The Uttam Hindu):Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Chandigarh on Tuesday. They reviewed three newly implemented criminal laws: the Indian Penal Code, the Indian Civil Defence Code, and the Indian Evidence Act, at Punjab Engineering College (PEC). Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria was also present at the event.

Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur showed PM Modi, Amit Shah, and Governor Kataria an exhibition, providing insights into the process from registering a case to investigations, as well as how criminals are kept in jail. Police officials briefed the Prime Minister on how, under the new laws, 900 FIRs have been registered in Chandigarh, with decisions made in four cases. Additionally, all police stations have been computerized, and new technologies have been introduced for improved law enforcement. Continuous awareness campaigns are being conducted for women, children, and the elderly. Citizens will no longer have to face delays in seeking justice.

Under the new laws, people have the right to file complaints in any language, without the necessity of knowing Hindi or English. Complaints will be accepted at the police stations, and individuals can file them from anywhere without needing to visit the stations in person. Police officials also explained the procedures for resolving cases, with a demonstration of a murder scene shown to the Prime Minister. They explained how, after receiving information from the control room, the next steps are taken, such as gathering evidence, using forensic teams, artificial intelligence, and modern technology. A court was also set up to explain the entire legal process, from trial to sentencing of the guilty.
