New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal has emphasized the importance of states collaborating with the private sector to develop action plans aimed at improving logistics to attract investments. Speaking at the launch of the "Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) 2024" report on January 3, 2025 Goyal stressed that states need to create regional and city-level logistics plans focusing particularly on enhancing last-mile connectivity.

During the event, Goyal also led the felicitation of the "Logistics Excellence, Advancement and Performance Shield (LEAPS) 2024." He urged the logistics sector to adopt the LEAD framework—Longevity, Efficiency and Effectiveness Accessibility and Accountability and Digitalisation of processes—to drive transformation. He also advocated for increased participation of women in the logistics sector and encouraged states to leverage public-private partnerships (PPPs) to ensure better outcomes. The Minister recommended developing multi-modal hubs for inland container depots and urged states to make land available through transparent bidding processes to reduce costs.

The LEADS 2024 report evaluates logistics performance across four critical pillars: Logistics Infrastructure, Logistics Services, Operating and Regulatory Environment and the newly introduced Sustainable Logistics. It also highlights state-specific initiatives and identifies opportunities for further development, providing actionable insights to guide logistics reforms. Goyal commended the efforts of all stakeholders, noting that logistics plays a vital role in boosting India's economic growth with a goal of exponential growth for the nation.
